Today we’ll explore the locative suffix in Turkish: -da, -de, -ta, -te. Where is the painting? Where are the keys? Where is my mind? (Just kidding… maybe.) Stay with us for a story set in an art gallery – with mystery, colors, and confusion. Hadi başlayalım! :)

🎨 Sanat Galerisinde Kaybolmak – Türkçe

Ayşe ve arkadaşı Mert, bir sanat galerisini ziyaret etti. Girişte büyük bir heykel vardı. 

Mert şaşkınlıkla sordu: 

Mert: “Bu ne? Ters duran bir sandalye mi bu?”

Ayşe güldü: 

Ayşe: “Hayır, bu modern sanat. Açıklama duvarda yazıyor.”

Mert yazıyı okudu: 

Mert: “Bu eser, insanın yalnızlığını anlatıyor…”

Ayşe: “Evet, yalnızlık sanatta çok sık işlenir.”

Biraz ileride bir oda vardı. Odanın içinde sadece bir televizyon vardı. 

Mert: “Televizyon odada, ama fiş prizde değil.”

Ayşe: “Çünkü o da sanat. Elektriksiz televizyon, iletişimsizlik sembolü.”

Bir başka köşede bir kadın resim yapıyordu. 

Mert: “Bu kadın sergide mi çalışıyor?” 

Ayşe: “Evet, o bir performans sanatçısı. Her gün burada resim yapıyor.”

Birden Mert bağırdı: 

Mert: “Telefonum yok! Nerede bu?”

Ayşe: “Belki çantandadır.” 

Mert çantasına baktı: 

Mert: “Hayır, orada değil. Belki bankta unuttum.”

Koşarak banklara gitti. Neyse ki telefon çantanın yanındaki sandalyedeydi.

Ayşe gülümsedi: 

Ayşe: “Sanat başka evrenlere götürür… ama telefonun burada kalır.” 

Mert: “Güzel, ama Wi-Fi’siz evren istemem.”

English Translation

🎨 Getting Lost in the Art Gallery

Ayşe and her friend Mert visited an art gallery. At the entrance, there was a huge sculpture.

Mert asked in surprise: 

“What is this? An upside-down chair?”

Ayşe laughed:

“No, it’s modern art. The explanation is written on the wall.”

Mert read it:

“This piece represents human loneliness…” 

Ayşe said:

“Yes, loneliness is often explored in art.”

A bit further, there was a room. Inside it, only a TV stood. 

Mert said:

“The TV is in the room, but it’s not plugged in the socket.” 

Ayşe:

“Because that’s part of the art. A TV without power is a symbol of disconnection.”

In another corner, a woman was painting. 

Mert asked:

“Is she working in the exhibition?”

Ayşe:

“Yes, she’s a performance artist. She paints here every day.”

Suddenly, Mert shouted: 

“My phone is gone! Where is it?” 

Ayşe calmly said:

“Maybe it’s in your bag.” 

Mert checked:

“Nope, not there. Maybe I left it on the bench.” 

He ran over. Thankfully, it was on the chair next to the bag.

Ayşe: 

"Art takes you to other universes… but your phone stays here."

Mert: 

"Nice, but I don't want a universe without Wi-Fi." 😅

And that’s it! From lonely sculptures to missing phones, we found out that Turkish location suffixes can take us to many places—literally. Keep practicing those “-da, -de, -ta, -te” endings.
